Trip to Niagara Falls of India (CHITRAKOTE FALLS) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you ever heard about “Indian Niagara” waterfalls? Yes, it is there at Chitrakote, 42kms Jagdalpur railway station (Chhattisgarh). The shape and pattern of the falls very similar with Niagara Falls, only difference is in width and volume of water. This place is among very few tourist spots of India where Monsoon (Jul-Sep) is the BEST time to visit. On July 3rd week I and my 4 colleagues decided to visit Jagdalpur. There are two ways to reach Jagdalpur from Kolkata: >> Sambaleswari Express (18005) – Leaves at 21.30 from HWH and reaches Jagdalpur at 23.30 next day. >> Via Vizag – Reach Vizag via train and then reach Jagdalpur via Araku. Lodge rooms can be booked from Chhattisgarh tourism office at Chitrakote Building, Minto Park. There are 12 cottages and and try to book Cottage No. 1, where I stayed. We reached Jaddalpur at 23.30 hrs and next day we reached Chitrakote by travelling 42kms. Since we visited on the 4th week of July, the water volume was tremendous. If you reach the nearest spot, I bet you will feel scary. Height of the falls is 95 feet and wide enough during monsoon. We spent 2 nights at Chitrakote and while returning to Jagdalpur, we went to see another falls named Tirothgarh. This is also a fantastic falls but not that glamorous as Chitrakote.
