#TriviaMonday 30 years ago at the Russian Academy of Sciences, in what was then called the Soviet Union, researcher Alexey Pajitnov created a game called Tetris. Tetra-tennis contained various shapes of blocks of 4 squares which the player had to neatly arrange in the available space. His colleague, Vadim Gerasimov ported the game to IBM PC on which platform it took America by storm. Everything after that is history. Many versions have been released on every possible platforms since and its popularity never diminished. It was most recently featured at the 2014 Sochi Paralympic Games where a huge colourful game of tetris was played on the stadium floor and the cubes spelled out the word impossible. As for the games background music? The best-known version is Korobeiniki [Коробейники] which is a 19th century Russian folk song of courtship between a girl and a peddler, featured here by none other than famous Red Army Choir. #tetris #tetrisanniversary
