Trojan Talk Dual Enrollment deadline approaching Nine outstanding performances took center stage at the Morristown West Talent Show last Tuesday night. The judges had to award two honorable mentions along with the usual top three contestants. Junior Tym Bair received honorable mention for a dance performance. Junior Nina Gomez received honorable mention for a piece on the piano. The versatility in the show did not stop there. In third place was junior Nathanial Love on the guitar. In second place was freshman Carson Grimes with a glow-stick dance. Senior Shaan Ramaprasad finished his Talent Show career with first place for his rendition of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” on the violin. The Student Council would like to thank all of those who came out to see these talented students. The Student Council would also like to announce they will be continuing to sell extra Trojan Nation T-shirts. Contact a Student Council member or sponsors Rebecca Drinnon and Amy Allen for more information. College is another hot topic this week, as precollege programs and application due dates arrive. The University of Notre Dame will be offering three pre-college programs this year. The first program is titled Summer Scholars. It is a two-week program that introduces students to college-level academics in fields ranging from the liberal arts to the sciences and business. All sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. Applications are due by Jan. 30, 2015. The second program is called Leadership Seminars. This is a 10-day, all expenses paid program for advanced students who wish to work on their critical thinking and expressive skills with their peers. This program is available to all juniors, and applications will be due Jan. 23, 2015. The last is named Study Abroad: Rome. This 12-day program will allow students to experience the history and culture of Rome, Italy. Only juniors can apply, and applications are due by Jan. 16, 2015. In other college news, juniors and seniors may sign up to tour the College of Engineering at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville on Wednesday, Nov. 12. If interested, please pick up a permission slip in the counseling office. There will also be a tour of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Morristown on Friday, Nov. 14 for juniors and seniors. Permission slips for this tour are also available in the counseling office. For those students planning on attending Walters State for Dual Enrollment Courses next semester, registration materials are now in the counseling office. A Walters State representative will be at West on Thursday, Nov. 6 to help students register for spring classes. Paperwork should be completed and returned prior to this date. Fall sports seasons are coming to an end, as the football team enters playoffs this Friday. The time and place of the game will be announced soon. Congratulations to the football team on a winning record during regular season. Other sports at West have had very successful seasons as well. Congratulations to both the boys and girls cross country teams for making yet another state appearance and the volleyball team for making their second sub-state appearance ever in school history. The lady’s soccer team also worked hard this season, with a third place finish in the district tournament, and the golf team finished their season by naming senior Ryan Ramsey and junior Brooke Samples MVPs at their end of the year banquet. Along with the hour gained because of the time change this weekend, students will have Monday, Nov. 3 and Tuesday, Nov. 4 off for Fall Break. Have a fantastic weekend and be ready for the short week that lies ahead.
