Tropical Storm Edouard Between 2 Tropical Lows Tropical Storm - TopicsExpress

Tropical Storm Edouard Between 2 Tropical Lows Tropical Storm Edouard is the only player on the tropical Atlantic board today as the other two developing lows on either side have no chance of development over the next couple of days. One is in the Gulf of Mexico while the other is in the far Eastern Atlantic. All three systems are seen in this GOES-East satellite image from today. Tropical Storm Edouard At 5 p.m. EDT, the center of Tropical Storm Edouard was near latitude 22.5 north and longitude 47.5 west. Thats about 1,050 miles (1,695 km) east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. Edouard is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 kph) and this motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph (95 kph) and Edouard is forecast to become a hurricane over the Central Atlantic Ocean late Sunday or early Monday. The increase in strength is expected because Edouard will be moving through warm waters and there is light wind shear. Thunderstorm development was seen blossoming this afternoon on satellite imagery. NASAs Aqua satellite captured an infrared image (oranges=warm sea surface temperatures, purple = cold cloud tops and strong storms) Low #1 in The Gulf of Mexico Low #1. The area of low pressure located over the east-central Gulf of Mexico has continued to become less defined this afternoon and the associated shower activity is minimal. Upper-level winds are not conducive for development, and the low will most likely degenerate into a trough (elongated area) of low pressure while it moves westward across the Gulf of Mexico during the next few days. This low has a near Zero chance of forming into a depression over the next 5 days. Low #2 in the Eastern Atlantic Low #2. Shower activity associated with a tropical wave located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands (off Africas West Coast) has diminished today, and development of this system is unlikely to occur as it moves westward or west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph. This low ALSO has a near zero chance of developing over the next couple of days.
