Tropical Storm Risk anticipates activity will be the highest since 2004. Based on current and projected climate signals, the 2014 Northwest Pacific typhoon season will see an ACE index about 25% above the long-term (1965-2013) climate norm. The forecast calls for: 27 tropical storms including 17 typhoons and 11 intense typhoons. This compares to long-term norms of 26, 16 and 8 respectively. An ACE (Accumulated Cyclone Energy) value of 375. The long-term norm is 295. The last year with a NW Pacific ACE index well above 300 was 2004. A 69% probability of an above-normal Northwest Pacific typhoon season, a 26% likelihood of a near-normal season, and only a 5% chance of a below-normal season. tropicalstormrisk/docs/TSRNWPForecastMay2014.pdf
