Tropics continue to quiet down as Cristobal moves into North Atlantic and Marie becomes extra-tropical in Eastern Pacific. Hurricane Cristobal is move quickly to the northeast over the Atlantic towards Iceland. The system will begin to merge with a frontal zone today and transition to a powerful extra-tropical storm that will likely bring tropical storm-force winds and heavy rain to Iceland on Sunday night and northern UK early next week. The weak area of low pressure previously designated as Invest 98L continues to move slowly westward through the Gulf of Mexico (GOMEX) is now moving inland over TX. The system continues to spread heavy rain and thunderstorms over the western Gulf of Mexico, south TX and northern MX. Wind shear held development in check as the low moved ashore and moderate rainfall accumulations is the only impact. Rainfall amounts from 1-3” are possible over portions of south TX throughout the day. The wave in Caribbean designated as Invest 97L continues to track towards MX and remains disorganized. Upper-level winds will remain unfavorable for development during the next day or so. However, environmental conditions could become more conducive for some development when the system moves over the northwestern Caribbean Sea Saturday night or Sunday, and into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico Sunday night or Monday. No threat to the U.S. at this time. The National Hurricane Center has issued the last advisory on post-tropical cyclone Marie in the Eastern Pacific. The post-tropical system continue weaken and remain well out to sea and die. Currently Marie is located almost a thousand miles west-southwest of San Diego, California. Strong surf and rip tides continue to abate. Elsewhere – A new tropical wave will move off the coast of Africa this evening. This large tropical wave is not expected to develop in the near term as environmental conditions remain unfavorable for development for the next several days into the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. None of the more reliable computer models are forecasting the wave will develop over the next five days.
