Trudie Casey, I miss you. And, I will miss the long conversations we had. Mostly, though, it was me doing the talking. You were the best listener! Then, you would answer me with words of wisdom that never ceased to cause me to alter my perception on whatever it was. You always made me think. You encouraged me to place my faith in a loving, caring Higher Power. When I called you apprehensive about what my future held, you reminded me of the many miracles that stand as proof that my Higher Power hasn’t let me down, and isn’t about to. So, when I heard the news this morning, I questioned my Higher Power about why something like this would happen to my wonderful, sweet, caring, serene, and spiritual friend, who loved unconditionally. It just doesn’t make sense. Then, I imagined what you would say to my question. You would say that it isn’t for me to question, that sometimes things just happen. You would tell me that it is okay to be sad, but not to stay in my sadness. You’d tell me to continue on doing what I’m doing. Thank you Trudie, for showing me what recovery is, even when I wasn’t even sure that I wanted recovery. Your words of wisdom will no doubt continue to be heard among the many lives you touched, and you will continue to touch many lives for years to come.. Thank you for being a huge part of my life and my recovery for the last 5 years. I will never forget the lessons you taught me. One of the very first lessons I learned is to admit when I am wrong and ask forgiveness. The other (more recent) lesson you taught me is a quote by Teilhard de Chardin that you gave me in the form of a picture. It is, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience…we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Well Trudie, your human experience is now over and you are now truly yourself, a spiritual being. I love you Trudie, always.
