True Italic is a cute newish Osteria in Bree Street (next to Orinoco). Owned by an Italian brother and sister, you can expect rustic authentic food and charm. They like to make everything themselves, from the pasta, to the gnocchi to the sausages and anything seasonal in between. We shared their artichoke platter which just pure heaven. Milky ricotta and Parmesan shards with rocket leaves and a bowl of artichokes drowned in olive oil with fresh home made focaccia on the side. I mean, I could settle for just that right there. We shared a pasta (tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms), gnocchi with their home made fennel sausage sauce and the pork ribs in a Sicilian tomato sauce. All tasty, but my favourite dish was the gnocchi which I so rarely find is good here. Their house white which comes in a little carafe is pretty decent too. Ill definitely be back. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting with face brick walls and candlelight. They also have a deli section so you can buy your ready made meals or fill up on local EV olive oil for R80 per liter dispensed from a vat (take your own bottle to refill).
