True Messengers of God How can a man know whether the man who talks to him about Spiritual things is a true messenger of God? A man who believes in God calls to God in prayer. There is one sure thing about a man who prays to God and that is, he believes, as written, “For whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”(Romans 10:13-14) By the power of God, they either heard the message from somebody, or is convinced that there is God, or they might have read it, or heard it from the Scripture. Nevertheless, if one is not a fully grown man in the Spirit, he has yet to learn more. The world is full of false prophets and teachers therefore, he should be careful. The promise of the Lord to believer is, as written, “For He hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”(Hebrews 3:15, Joshua 1:6) So a believer is protected. Hereunder are some Scriptural passages to guide a believer in knowing whether a messenger is a true messenger of God or not; A. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto Him.”(John 3:34, Romans 10:15) Remember this does not say speaking about the word of God or uttering the name God, Jesus Christ or Holy Ghost. It says speaking the words of God. B. He does not bear witness of himself knowing that it only honours himself and not God. The main duty of a true messenger is to bear witness of the word. It is written, “if I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.”(John 5:31) C. He does not speak of himself or expound on the word of God by His thoughts. That is not his duty, neither is he better than God for him to help God. It is written, “He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his own glory that sent him, the same is true and no unrighteousness is in him.”(John 7:18)Thus he does not give testimony about being blessed. If ever he so believes that he has received, he gives thanks to God in prayer. D. He does not use the word of God so people will trust him, as what the Devil did when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness, as written in the gospels. A true messenger uses the word of God for men to trust in God. E. A true messenger will try to ignore the honour from men, but waits for the honour from God. He does not glory and uses titles given by men but waits for that honour from God. It is written, “How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only.”(John 5:44) F. He waits on God to move people for his provisions. He does not initiate the collection of money using the Scripture because he trust in God and his promise. It is hoped that the Lord will shed to believers His protection from the wiles of the Devil, who thrives on the ignorance of men while pushing the poor deeper into the mud of poverty. The consolation about the God’s judgment for us to remember is that God favors the cheated and not the cheaters. It is written, “For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the very elect.”(Mark 13:22) But by the protection of God on their life eternal, it is not possible for false Christs and false prophets to deprive believers of life eternal.
