True Worship Jun 23, 2013 05:01 pm, by Chris Greer Read Romans 12:1-2 “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2 NLT Which of Paul’s powerful words stand out to you in this passage? What do you think of when you hear the word worship? Do you think of your Sunday church service, your favorite Christian rock song or pipe-organ-led hymn? Perhaps you think of people lifting their hands to the heavens? That’s what I think of. But Paul is asking us to think differently about worship, just as he was asking his first-century audience to think differently about sacrifice. I think God, by way of Paul, is asking us to think of worship as far more than church services, songs, and emotional responses. He wants us to think of sacrifice as far bigger than just giving something up. God wants us to think of worship as giving all of ourselves to him – not just feeling good about what he has given us. This means worshiping him by consciously, intentionally, and sacrificially giving all of our thoughts, actions, and feelings to him. Try giving your body, soul, and mind as a living sacrifice to God. See if worship becomes much more than what you think it is now, and if what you gain from your sacrifice is far greater than what you give. Reflection/Prayer: What is one way that God wants to change the way you think? Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – I want to be transformed and I want to offer my life as a living sacrifice. Truthfully, I don’t always know what that means. I ask you today to reveal to me what that means for my life. How do you want me to think differently? How are you desiring to transform me? I’m here. I’m listening. I trust that your word is true – and that I will know your perfect and pleasing will. Amen. By Chris Greer The post True Worship appeared first on Trochia.
