True professionals respond well to constructive criticism. To them its a challenge, a new set of goals and a new opportunity to impress their naysayers and their leadership. True professionals will NOT however respond well to criticism in general. Why? Because true professionals take pride in their work and they take their work personal. No matter what you do, the way you work and the results of that work are a reflection of that persons personality - so when you criticize/scrutinize their work you are also criticizing and scrutinizing the person whether you intend to or not. So what you say, how you say it who to WHOM you say it (or whisper it) matters!!!! Professionals will always be accepting of words that will cause their work to become better, but words that offer no building substance and are based on personal opinion will always be met with opposition and ultimately some sort of distancing action.
