True story ! So Im always on the prowl for the unique! I had an item commissioned and worked directly with a local artist so the piece was completed and it was not to spec. So I asked the artist could you go back to the original spec we agreed on , the artist took offense and said these are the specs that we both agreed to... I figured ok blame game because I knew what we agreed to and I could see that the artist embellished a bit too much on the lines of the piece ... the artist then said it would cost more to reduce the spec, so here we are at a stand still so we remeasured the space and I asked the artist to revisit the piece and let me know ASAP how long it would take to bring it to spec ... Two weeks or so it would take and I figured they would adjust the size at no additional charges ... So they cry that it will ruin the flow and u should just take it as is but Im not loving it at all so they agree to reduce , two weeks come and go and no word... Meanwhile Im antsy and the original inspiration for the art piece came from a very famous artist so one night Im on the internet about 3 am and I see the famous artists facebook page I sent an instant message introducing myself and how much I dig his work etc even sent him a picture of the art piece I adore ! Guess what !!! He is making me a version of the original he was so taken by my note that he went into turbo speed to make the piece meanwhile the other artist who did not come up to spec never got back to me so I called the first artist and wanted to know if they had fixed the piece and the artist responded NO I need to be paid in full in order to complete it so I thought about it and said well you havent kept me abreast of the correction how can I trust you to finish the project . So I made the decision to let him keep my deposit and materials and the piece because what I really wanted was THE ARTIST who is critically acclaimed for this style of work was making me my own version at a fraction of what the local artist was charging !!!! And the piece was on its way and I knew this was meant to be. The loss was next to zero for me except time and the local artist who did not come up to spec could sell it and not be at a loss it was a win win for both. I only wished I had reached out to the critically acclaimed artist from day one I would have avoided all this wasted time . I learned never settle for less in anything !!!! And the client is always right sometimes you have to put your ego aside when selling to the public!
