Truex Jr. Claims 10th Starting Spot for Season Finale #NASCAR Martin Truex Jr. advanced to the third and final round of qualifying Friday and will start 10th in Sundays Ford EcoBoost 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was Truexs fourth straight top-10 qualifying effort at the 1.5-mile oval located in South Florida. Truex drove his No. 78 Furniture Row/Denver Mattress Chevrolet to lap time of 30.156 seconds and a speed of 179.069 miles per hour. After posting the sixth fastest speed in the first round, it appeared that Truex was not going to get past the second round as he was positioned in 22nd place with a short time remaining. But a blistering lap vaulted him to the fourth spot and the opportunity to compete for the pole against the final 12 drivers. That was a lot of fun to make that lap and get into the final 12, said Truex. No question I was going for the pole in the last session but I over-powered Turn 1. I laid everything on the line and was probably trying too hard. Our Furniture Row Chevy had the performance -- a solid team effort. The pole winner was Jeff Gordon (29.876 at 180.747). Rounding our the top-12 in order were: Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Truex, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson. Sundays race will be televised on ESPN, beginning with a two-hour prerace show at 11 a.m. MT (1 p.m. ET).
