Truly dire Question Time last night. Usual dull questions that hardly warrant debate. Tristram Hunt looks and sounds like a Tory, typical Bananaman square jaw, privileged background, completely Conservative political and historical ideology. But hes in Labour ???!! As for Caroline Lucas......it wasnt a very smooth performance. it was made typically difficult by the fact that she was only really given a few seconds at the very end to formulate some kind of argument around the renewables issue. In typical BBC style the waning last seconds were condescendingly given up for The Greens to finally have their Eco policies voiced. But it wasnt the kind of thing that Caroline (or any other Green) could wrap up in 60 seconds whilst everyone else shuffled about uncomfortably and the UKip just laughed all the way through. This is the frustrating thing that the Greens have to realise - a drive to base our modes of production, our ideological and political thinking , and our very way of life, around Eco awareness and humanism CANNOT happen under Capitalism. It Is by its very nature anti-capitalist and is something that unfortunately will always be countered by the very narrow (easy to understand) capitalist arguments. Even a thick Ukip Mp is going to win most arguments because he is backed up by popular mainstream support that is blinded and driven purely by money, the economy and our culture of reckless democratically sponsored consumerism.
