Truly, does Nigeria still have a functioning Minister of Defense - TopicsExpress

Truly, does Nigeria still have a functioning Minister of Defense and National Security Advisor? Okay, wheres Nigerias Defense Minister, retired General Aliyu Gusau, and Nigerias NSA, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki? These two folks were supposed to be in the fore-front alongside President Jonathan by telling the nation the progress made so far with the war on terror being waged against Boko Haram. But so far, all the aforementioned have been incommunicado, and why is that? Even the Minister of State in charge of Defense, Mr. Musliu Obanikoro, where is he? Disbelief. These people, are they still getting paid from the public treasury? I dont think so. Moreover, something is terribly wrong with status quo of the Nigerian Military Establishment. Currently, we are not at war with a formidable army, but a rag-tag Islamist insurgent a.k.a. Boko Haram, yet the Nigerian military hasnt bitten very hard against Boko Haram, and what does that really say of Nigerias Armed Forces of the 21st Century? In Executive Presidential system of Government, leadership is collective and collaborative. There are sitting or constituted Intelligence and Armed Services Committees in the National Assembly to oversee the Nigerian military aside the Executive Branch, but what has been the function(s) of these committees? Each time these committees debate military budgets, and moneys are appropriated for the nations defense, but where exactly do these moneys get channeled to? Because the published pictures or images of Nigerias armed forces is very laughable and embarrassing. Finally, President Jonathan must exert his presidential powers as Commander-In-Chief and reshuffle the armed forces with immediate effect.Things cannot remain the way they are presently. God forbid a neighboring West-African country invades Nigeria, then, what happens? The entire country will just be overtaken within days. People who are very close to Mr. President must let him know of this grave danger with immediate alacrity. Under normal circumstances, Boko Haram shouldnt be any match for the Nigerian Armed Forces. Too sad. punchng/news/mutiny-four-military-officers-quizzed/
