Trust First, trust stands as a bulwark in guarding one’s relationship with God. Secondly, it actually serves to protect from doubt. Third, it allows a believer to remain resilient and stedfast in times of adversity. Trust supports weak believers and sustains storm tossed souls. The word trust is found 126 times in the Word of God; some 48 times the Psalms. Many of the references have links to a particular promise from God. Here is a sampling: 1. The Promise to Defend against enemies ~ But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. (Ps 5:11) 2. The Promise to Deliver ~ And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. (Ps 37:40) 3. The Promise of a Dwelling place ~ Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. (Ps 37:3) ~ Ps 61:4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. ~ Ps 62:8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. (Jn 14:1-3) 4. The Promise of Declaring God’s works ~ But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. (Ps 73:28) The Scriptures are clear, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Prov 3:5-6) Finally, Ps 34:22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate. Ps 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Ps 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
