Trust your instincts. How many times have we heard that advice? - TopicsExpress

Trust your instincts. How many times have we heard that advice? Yet often we fail to heed that wisdom. It is very rare that you hear someone say, I really should NOT have gone with my gut feeling on that one. Our brains are amazing tools, but there is an inherent limit to the conscious level of understanding. If a thought cant convert to language, for example, the rational mind will discard it. We are mathematicians using symbolic logic, and language is the numerical surrogate. But there is a deeper intelligence that resides somewhere in our subconscious. It feels like it comes from the core of our body--The pit of our stomach, where biologists have discovered that most of our neurotransmitters are produced. Something in the evolutionary programming that told us who to trust, and what situations to avoid before we had language in our brains. Im writing this because of a recent failure in trusting my gut. My brain said GO, my gut said Youre gonna regret this. But like a good rational thinker, I went with the brain. And now I have to deal with the consequences of that decision. While generalities always fail in the case of certain specifics, I have found many men (myself included) to be particularly susceptible to trusting the brain over instinct, while women are occasionally more susceptible to confusing the brain thoughts FOR instinct. Pure instinct is an incredibly powerful rudder in our lives... Time spent learning how your own signals manifest can be incredibly valuable. At least thats what my gut says...
