Truth: Its a red lipstick kind of day. Im tired, busy, going in 10 different directions and I have had a migraine on and off since last Thursday. So I get up and put on a fun dress, fabulous jewelry, (control top but very chic) black tights, cool booties and of course Bold Bordeaux on my lips. My Grandmother Sarah used to tell me I would feel better if I just put some lipstick on. And she is right- I do feel better, its good to take care of yourself and I believe God created me to love red lipstick and high heels. Maybe if I am pretty and funny enough they wont see how crazy I really am. But its only skin deep, and the first round of work emails makes me panic. This time I stop and turn to my devotionals for the morning, Proverbs 31 Ministries is one of my favorites. The devotional is great, but the scripture rocks me to my core. So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Col 3:12-14 MSG. Right in the heart- I am spending so much time on my outward appearance and forgetting the wardrobe that God has hand picked for me. I am looking for light and beauty and grace in my own flesh, an absolutely unsustainable source. My master stylist whispers to my heart: Do you want to be a white washed tomb or a stained glass window? Will you allow me to take the broken shards of your life, the ugly, dirty, un-lipsticked pieces and put them together in a masterpiece? Let Me shine through you today, My compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, forgiveness and perfect love make you radiant beautiful. And as a conduit of all these things, they will flow through your heart and mind as well. I still wear the lipstick and all the other stuff, but joy has flowed out of me today, inside out, and peace.
