Truth Without Sugar Acts 5:34-42…We need to start in (verse 33) and understand the “cut to the quick” line. When in times past the term “pierced to the heart” was used it was in the sense of shame and repentance from what was heard, but this “cut to the quick” or should I say (enraged response) is from anger that comes from known guilt. This term is also used in (Acts 7:54) with the stoning of Stephen as we will see later. The point here is with the Sanhedrin (Ruling party of Israel) who wanted to do away with the Apostles just as they did with Jesus. Gamaliel, who was the teacher of Saul/Paul, stood up in some-what of a protest against the actions of the council and reminded them of two other men who claimed to be something but soon went away. This is true today as well because there are many who claim to be something that never turn into anything for very long as with Theudas (vs36) and Judas (vs 37). The point of truth comes from Gamaliel of “If this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown; but if it is God, you will be fighting against God” (vs. 38-39). No truer words have ever been spoken. When we as Christians are called to do something, something that God has placed in your heart, that something will come forth as God has designed. We may be scared off by the size of the dream or the roadblocks that come up but we need to keep in mind that this is God’s plan and all we need to do is be obedient to His requests and keep “standing and speaking.” Peter and the Apostles were not deterred by what they were asked to do (Do not speak in the name of Jesus anymore) but were determined to fulfill the task that they were given of “’Go’ ‘Stand’ and ‘Speak’ the whole message of this Life” (vs.20). When you are called into service you will have a strong desire to “tell of “this Life” and if you put it off you will have burning that can’t be quenched. Jerimiah had this burning, he was distraught over people not listening and having to give bad news all the time. Read his concern. “But if I say, I will not remember Him (God) or speak in His name, Then in my heart, it becomes like a burning fire, Shut up in my bones; and I am weary of holding it in and I cannot endure it” (Jeremiah 20:9). Its God’s plan just be obedient to Him and dont worry about those who are against you.
