Truth Without Sugar (Part 3) Matthew 18:18 continued…. It is my opinion that many do not have a fear of the Lord because they have excused the Old Testament in their understanding and application and have replaced it solely with the New Testament teaching of grace and forgiveness. Again that grace and forgiveness was there just as much as it is with us. In the Old Testament we witnessed God who was up front with allot of the issues of the people and dealt with them personally. Look at some examples. Elijah who withheld the rain (binding) for three years out of judgment in 1Kings Ch’s17-19, Sodom and Gamorrah in Genesis 19:22-25, destroyed for their flat out refusal of God, for years, plus several other small cities because of their wickedness. Look at Korah, who he and his band stood up against God and Moses in Numbers 16:20-24 & 27-35, look at (16:30-32) is a great example of “Whatever you bind is bound whatever loosed shall be loosed in heaven” in Matt18. Moses followed the WILL of the Lord and so it was as he said in dealing with Korah. You see the Loosing and Binding was already here with God’s people in word and deed. Look at Ananias and Saphira, (just a simple lie?) if they would have said “we want to keep some for ourselves” there probably would have been no problem, but they chose to lie in order to place themselves in a place of “respect” amongst the people in Acts 15:1-11. The Holy Spirit is setting an example for the church as well as placing the earthly authority in the disciples. Will it happen all the time? Obviously no! But it is still an example of what we should not be or do, and again signifying the power of the disciples to bind and loosen according to the WILL of the Lord especially in verse 9 towards Saphira. “The feet of those who carried your husband will do the same with you.” (Binding and loosening). In Judges God let things go because “They did what was right in their own eyes. They manipulated, cheated, and twisted the word and believed that God would do nothing.
