Tsipras Same As Papandreou - Real news is reporting that Tsipras has said he will not pay interest on the national debt saving 25 billion Euros over 4 years. He says he will use the money to pay for social protection and the development Tsipras wants to see. What is fails to mention is the consequence of not paying the interest payments. If he stops paying interest the Greek government will not be able to borrow money from anyone. I mean what investor lends their money if they are not getting some reward back for the risk they are taking, the reward being interest. Sure, the Greek government could stop paying interest but if they did they would have to balance their books immediately and this would mean sacking tens of thousands of government workers. It makes no sense how Tsipras can one the one hand say he will not pay interest and yet on the other hand say he will not sack government workers. It is a complete oxymoron and this is why Tsipras is like Papandreou, he is promising things it is impossible for him to deliver.
