Tuesday, 22 October 2013- “Disconnect with the Past” And Elisha saw it ,and he cried, My Father, My Father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces. He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him.(2 Kings 2 vs 12,13). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today. It is remarkably noteworthy that after Elisha watched as Elijah was taken into heaven by a whirlwind, he took hold of his own clothes and he tore them into two. Notice carefully, before he picked up the mantle of Elijah, he had to tear his own clothes into pieces. In the Hebrew culture, a mans clothes told the story of who he was. So, Elisha tore the garment that told the story of his past level as a prophet-in-training. He discarded his connection to the past. He didnt take the symbol of his past into his future. Elisha understood that his past and his future may not be such a perfect mix and so one had to go;it definitely had to be the past. Friend, there is a new future you have to create today. There is a word of prophecy hanging over your head; there is a huge promise from Jehovah about to be fulfilled in your life but if it has to be fulfilled in your life, you must disconnect from every negative past. Disconnect yourself from habits that are inconsistent with where God is taking you to. Elishas old garments may have been good enough for his past level, but they were not good enough for the new level that God just took him to. The things you need to leave behind may have been acceptable in time past, but just maybe they will become hindrances to your new level. He disconnected from his past before he embraced the future. If you hold on to things you need to discard, your life may soon become a trash bin of negativity, stopping new things from happening in your life. Pray with me,Lord,I disconnect myself from every negative tag from my past in Jesus name. Follow on Twitter @jerrystreams Have a Splendid Tuesday!
