Tuesday 27th YOUR NAME, PLEASE? “So He said to him, What is your name? He said, Jacob.” Genesis 32:27 (NKJV) Our names do not just define and describe who we are, they determine how people relate with us. Most time our names give room for presumptions about us. People often form opinions about us based on the names we bear even before they meet us. Despite being “the promised child,” Jacob’s name which literally means “supplanter” reflected in his behaviour and people’s perception of him. Genesis 27:36 Though easily loved by people, he was soon treated with suspicion as a consequence of the burden of his name. Until that night that he “wrestled with God.” and his name was changed, Jacob lived with mixed feelings and mixed blessings. Genesis 32:22-28 Are you having troubles with your name? Has your name become a dark cloud over you? Are you always judged by your name and not by your efforts? Is your father’s name or that of your birth place defining people’s perception of you? You may need to seek the face of God in prayer and fasting. Why would God change Abram’s name to Abraham, and Sarai’s name to Sarah? Gen 17:5, 15, 16 Why did the Angel of the Lord change Jacob’s name to Israel? Why was Saul’s name changed to Paul? Because names are spirits, they manifest wherever they are, either positively or negatively; they can be an attraction or repulsion, promotion or demotion; expansion or limitation. They can make or mar destinies. Therefore you must present your name before God. Ask God to remove every evil influence from your name. Pray that God gives you a new name. Pray for deliverance from every limitation or embargo your name placed on you. Pray the prayer of Jabez, and God will answer you. 1Chronicles 4:9-10 Today’s Memory Verse: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2nd Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV) PRAYER POINT: Give me a new name O Lord. Let it usher new things into my life in Jesus’ name.
