Tuesday 29th October: Wind was promised and wind delivered, it - TopicsExpress

Tuesday 29th October: Wind was promised and wind delivered, it snuck up from behind and we spent day 2 (yesterday) surfing along goosewinged with 2 reefs in the main and the headsail poled out on port side. Just before dusk with the swell rising and the wind approaching a steady 30kts we tucked up the main for the night and continued into the darkness with just the head sail pushing us on through the stars. At times its as well it was dark, the waves sure seemed big, and while they aint so scary when you cant see them they are still just as wet when they sploosh over side. A timely furl in a little on the headsail let us hit a top speed for this leg of 12.2kts as the windex hit 42 and retreated back to the more friendly 30kts we have become accustomed to. Helming seems so much easier now in the daylight. We have had a great run today, still surfing along with the head sail towards the Canary Islands. Another clear night is promised with an old moon that wont rise until after midnight. Our stargazing knowledge is even improving too. First sight of land will be the lights on Gran Canaria in the early hours of tomorrow, and already our thoughts are turning to the Sailor Bar. All the best from Skyelark, Lydia
