Tuesday 2nd September Koala Room Update: We started our day - TopicsExpress

Tuesday 2nd September Koala Room Update: We started our day with some collage using lots of glue, feathers and paper cup cake moulds. After fruit time, Linda had group time with our “That’s not my truck/car/donkey” books. Layla and Konnor enjoyed feeling the different textures in the pictures. Then it was time for outside play so we provided opportunities for indoor/outdoor play as it was a bit cool outside. Ivy-Rose had some quiet time with Sarah playing with a soft tiger. Ivy–Rose grabbed at the toys and made lots of eye contact with Sarah. Grace was happy to investigate the musical toy, moving the wheels and making the toy light up and make music. Will went through the rattle basket and shook them all making some interesting sounds. Possum Room Update: Was a little bit wet and cold outside this morning so we decided to do indoor/outdoor play. Zoe, Jaanavhi and Bridget enjoyed playing in the home corner sharing the babies between them. They took turns to bath their babies then dress them with a little bit of help from educators. Zoe then carefully placed her baby in the carrier and carried her around the room. The children helped Dylan to make some sand dough this morning using the sand from our sandpit. The children gathered around the table watching carefully as he stirred up all the ingredients. Once it was finished the children enjoyed playing with it using different utensils including rollers, cutters and shape cutters and seeing and feeling the difference of the texture. Craft today consisted of some gluing using cardboard, coloured feathers, patty cake cases, paper and glitter. Bilby Room Update: Today we were lucky enough to be able to play outside even though it looked like it was going to rain. The children enjoyed playing on the bike track and sandpit with Brodie and Paris. Mackinley continued the “gardening” experience with some children and as they dug holes into the ground for the plants one of the children spotted a worm. Mackinley held the worm in her hands and allowed all the children to have a feel of what they called a “slimy” and “wriggly” worm. Inside Bonny and the children were making use of the recyclable materials that we have collected. Jet and the other children were busy using the boxes and other materials to make trains when Brodie and Emma decided to make something different. Using plastic cups they made “cup puppets” they asked Bonny to draw faces on the sides of the cups. Then using the glue Brodie stuck on some coloured feathers to the top of his cup as hair for his puppet. Whilst Emma used other materials to decorate her face as well as having feathers for hair. Continuing on with the use of sensory activities for the children, Grace had set up some hand painting on the table but instead of using their bare hands the children had them wrapped up in bubble wrap and then used their bubble wrap hands to make the pictures. Many of the children giggled as the bubble wrap popped as they pressed and squished their hands everywhere. Brodie laughed as he painted and said his hands were bubble guns because of all the popping noises they were making. Platypus Room Update: In celebration of Spring, the children continued to work on their spring craft decorating the trees’ branches as they scrunched coloured paper to create the flowers and leaves to be glued onto our bare tree stencils. This experience then extended to the outdoors where the children observed the growth of seedlings they had planted during the winter months. “They will grow pretty flowers. Yellow and white flowers,” shared Charlee with those around her. The bike track is always a popular activity amongst the children. Not only does this provide them with exercise in the great outdoors but it also encourages development of their gross motor skills and opportunities for sharing, turn taking and the development of other social skills. Sand castles, deep pits filled with water, mud pies and cakes were created by the children who chose to participate in the sandpit experiences. Blake dug such a deep hole that he actually reached water! Children sang and danced their way through the afternoon at a disco they had created; engaging in dramatic play. Noah and Ryan serenaded everyone with their singing of the theme song from the movie Frozen. We were lucky enough to have Tori bring some cool dress ups back from her holiday for our room. Kiana and Summer can be seen modelling these items. All in all, a fabulous day was had by all. Kangaroo Room Update: Today friends were confident in making up their own groups of play. There were boys making rockets and flying them around the room until they found a place to land, the tops of the ships then opened up and the little people came out. Friends were also busy once again in the hairdressing corner; children are now becoming more elaborate with hair styles, manipulating clips and brushes, Skye had a go at doing Deanna’s hair. Once outside the group play continued with friends playing in the construction site for a very long time, they made roads and bridges and moved dirt from A to B. They worked really well together listening to each other’s ideas and being constructive. Friends also revisited the camp site, Natalie, Lilly and friends made up some food to cook from things they gathered in the yard, they were very wary of the food being too hot, they role played very well and took care of each other, even adding a baby to the experience. Emu Room Update: Reflection by Jenna: Dr Seuss is all the rage in the Emu room at present so this morning I sat with the children so we could create a poster of all of the rhyming words we have learnt from reading Dr Seuss stories together. Riley, Tilly, Eva, Danika, Lucas, Ace, Charlie, Olivia G, Alex and Bec all became very invested in this experience, so much so that we filled a whole piece of cardboard with all of the rhyming words we knew. We used the story ‘Hop on Pop’ to remind us of some of the words we had possibly forgotten and boy oh boy did Charlie keep us on our toes as he ensured we did not forget to write down any of the words. We have displayed this poster on the wall so that as we discover more rhyming words we can continue to add to it. Over the coming weeks we will continue to develop a Dr Seuss inspired play space in our classroom. With Fathers Day fast approaching the children have had the opportunity to create some special presents for their Dads. Michaela has discussed with the children why their dads are so special and this has been reflected in a picture that accompanies a special poem that the children wrote yesterday. Andriana has engaged the children in cooking experiences to bake and decorate some delicious cupcakes for all the Dads to enjoy. Tyson, Lucia, Lucas, Riley, Charlie, Ben, Oliver and Caleb particularly enjoyed the baking experiences and were very excited to whip up several different colours of icing.
