Tuesday, August 19th LISTEN The following words are spoken by God, when Peter, James and John were with Jesus on a high mountain and Jesus had just been transfigured …. Matthew 17:5 “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” The Dalai Lama spoke these words … “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know; But when you listen, you may learn something new.” Yesterday I spent the afternoon with our members living in Bismarck in assisted living facilities and apartments to be closer to medical facilities. Yes, they wanted to hear news of their friends in Turtle Lake and what was happening at “their” church, Trinity Lutheran. But I believe what they truly wanted was someone to listen to them. And listen I did. And I continue to think about and process the visits. I admit, it’s easier to visit those who love and are thankful for where they are living, think the food is great and the people who work there are wonderful. But as I think about this, isn’t it just possible that those who are unhappy need our listening ear all the more. If we listen to and learn from Jesus, we see that he seemed to be drawn to those who had problems and lots of them. And with each of the wonderful people I visited, we shared communion. At this point, there was common ground, not between just the person and myself. We were linked with our family members generations ago, who sat at the table or knelt at the altar and were fed and forgiven through/by the body and blood of Christ. Now I let you think about and pray about these words. Give it to Jesus, the greatest teacher and the greatest listener whoever walked this great earth of ours. Dear Jesus, We admit and acknowledge how important listening is, we cherish our friends and family who listen to us. And you, Jesus, are the greatest listener there ever could be; always there waiting for us to come to you with our triumphs and our trials. Thank you for listening to us and for loving us. Amen Many blessings to you as we learn together! PS
