Tuesday, August 26, 2014 Ephesians 4:5, “One Lord, one faith, one baptism,” is a verse that sets forth unity, in a powerful way. Today we will examine one faith. There are times that faith is used to express a belief and trust in Jesus Christ. However in this verse it is used to describe the fundamental principles of God’s holy word. The short phrase raises the Bible to a height that we so often overlook. In Psalm 12:6 we read, “The words of the LORD are pure words.” Now since the Bible is the pure word of God, we can read it with confidence that there are no mistakes of any kind. Since God “cannot lie” (Titus 1:2) it means that every word of the Bible is true and can be nothing less. Jude said it well in Jude 1:3 “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Many Articles of Faith state, “We believe the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments (KJV) are the revealed word of God and the only rule of faith and practice” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Christ established one set of principles that the church is to hold, believe, and defend. May God give us the grace to so do, thus honoring Him.
