Tuesday, August 5th, was the 2014 National Night Out Against Crime. The Elizabeth City Police Department (ow.ly/A2cme) sponsored this event at Downtown Waterfront Park, where there were many exhibitors, displays, and activities including a children’s bounce house, K-9 demonstration, food vendors, music, a doughnut eating contest, and more! There was a a crowd of 300-400 in attendance on a beautiful summer night. The roots of National Night Out Against Crime were founded in 1984. The annual event is held the first Tuesday in August, and shines the spotlight on various crime prevention programs such as neighborhood watch groups, local law enforcement, and crime prevention associations, along with businesses, civic groups, and individuals dedicated to safer communities. Over 37 million individuals across the nation participate in this yearly effort. You can learn more at natw.org. I was pleased to have the opportunity to meet many supporters before I departed to attend the grand opening of the Dare County Democratic Party Headquarters. Thanks to my campaign volunteers who stayed on to continue to greet more new friends. More on the Dare County Democratic Party Headquarters Grand Opening in my next post!
