Tuesday, JANUARY 13, 2015 CONTACT: Bruce Baskin FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WRMIsports@live WRMI ADDS CARIBBEAN BASEBALL, CRICKET TO SCHEDULE OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA, USA – Radio Miami International is adding daily coverage of four sporting events in 2015, including baseball’s Caribbean Series in February and cricket’s Caribbean Premier League in June and July. WRMI will also focus on the Arena Football League title game in August and the Women’s National Basketball Association championship series in September. That brings the overall number of various sporting events covered by WRMI this year up to 30. “We’re still taking baby steps,” says WRMI sports director Bruce Baskin. “Since the start of December, we’ve carried previews, scores and highlights of the Army-Navy football game, FIFA Club World Cup soccer, the NCAA football playoffs and we’re in the middle of NFL postseason coverage which will wrap up with the Super Bowl on February 2. So far, it’s worked out fairly well for us.” Radio Miami International is currently the lone shortwave radio station in the Western hemisphere to offer sports coverage of any kind. “We’re certainly looking to reach Americans overseas, anyone from military personnel in Europe to Mormon missionaries in South America,” Baskin explains. “but we want people everywhere to listen in.” WRMI runs daily one-minute sports updates at 9AM and 9PM (1400 and 0200 UTC). “I’d like to see sports build up here,” adds Baskin. “Same-day sports play-by-play would be awesome.” The Caribbean Series will take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico from February 2-8, opening the same day the Super Bowl is played. “It’ll be a little tight for a day or two,” Baskin says, “but we’ll at least get the scores out.” The Caribbean Premier League runs from June 21 to July 26. “We can’t do that one every day because Wimbledon tennis and British Open golf fall within that timeframe,” Baskin says, “but we’ll get good CPL finals coverage in.” The AFL Arena Bowl is tentatively set for August 29 while the WNBA finals will begin in early September. “We’d like to have some pro basketball coverage,” explains Baskin, “but the NBA finals would conflict with our Stanley Cup coverage so I chose to go with the NHL. “Besides, I’m a Seattle boy who grew up loving the Sonics. I haven’t forgotten.” 175 Fontainebleau Blvd, Suite 1N4, Miami, Florida 33172 USA Tel +1-305-559-WRMI Fax +1-305-559-8186 E-mail [email protected] Website wrmi.net WRMI 2015 Sports Coverage Calendar JANUARY (2) 12 NCAA Football Playoff Championship 3-18 NFL AFC/NFC Playoffs FEBRUARY (3) 2 NFL Super Bowl 2-8 COPABE Caribbean Baseball Series 22 NASCAR Daytona 500 MARCH (2) 12 F1 Miami E-Prix 23-29 ICC Cricket World Cup APRIL (2) 4-6 NCAA Final Four 9-12 PGA The Masters MAY (3) 2 TRA Kentucky Derby 16 TRA Preakness Stakes 24 IRL Indianapolis 500 JUNE (4) 6 TRA Belmont Stakes 8-18 NHL Stanley Cup Finals 18-21 PGA U.S. Open 21-Jul 26 WICB Caribbean Premier League cricket JULY (2) 10-13 ITF Wimbledon Finals 16-19 PGA British Open AUGUST (3) 13-16 PGA PGA Championship 22-24 LLB Little League World Series 29 AFL Arena Bowl SEPTEMBER (3) 5-15 WNBA WNBA FInals 13-14 ITF U.S. Open Finals 18-31 IRB Rugby World Cup OCTOBER (2) 3 NCAA Air Force-Navy football 21-31 MLB World Series NOVEMBER (2) 7 NCAA Army-Air Force football 26-30 ITF Davis Cup finals DECEMBER (2) 12 NCAA Army-Navy football 20 FIFA Club World Cup Final
