Tuesday January 27, 2015 “SURRENDER YOUR PAST, 2” Scripture: Hebrews 12:14-28 Focus Verse: Hebrews 12:14-15 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. MY THOUGHTS: Yesterday I presented the thought that most of us have had people and situations in our past that affected us in a very negative way, that continue to affect our present. I also challenged each of us to “Surrender Your Past” through forgiving and seeing each person and event as part of God’s work in your life for your good and His glory. Today I would like to present a short case study from the life of Joseph, son of Jacob. He had a lot of situations that could have become heavy baggage in Joseph’s life, but didn’t. Joseph grew up in a really screwed up family where there were multiple wives, competition child bearing, and lots of back stabbing. Joseph was hated by his brothers, who attempted to kill him, and then totally reject him by selling him into slavery. While always attempting to do the right thing, Joseph was falsely accused, unjustly incarcerated, and had friends who broke their promises. But, Joseph successfully “Surrendered His Past” and allowed God to use him. Heres why: In Genesis 39 and 50 we find out what Joseph believed… Joseph believed he was never forsaken by God. Joseph believed that he should maintain a Godly attitude, no matter what. Joseph believed he must respond correctly to those in authority over him. Joseph believed he should glorify God at all times and under any circumstance. Joseph believed in trusting God even when he could trust no one else. Joseph believed that every person and life event can be used by God for Gods glory and our good. You and I will never successfully Surrender Our Past to God unless we too believe these things. Are there some roots of bitterness in your life that are troubling you and hurting those around you? SHARE SOME OF YOUR THOUGHTS.
