Tuesday, June 27, 1944 Operation Epsom continues East of Caen, and the 49th British infantry division, after hard fighting, manages to free the village of Raurey. The 15th Scottish division, after having secured the village of Cheux, wishes to continue its meteoric growth and is headed for major bridges over the Odon, objectives of operation Epsom. But it is slowed down by defenders of the Panzer Lehr who refuse to lose more ground. The Allied losses are very important. Advanced elements of the 15th Scottish infantry division however manage to establish a bridgehead on the right bank of the Odon, reached at the level of the Tourmanville bridge. Other elements of this division, and the 11th armoured division, cross the bridge and attack the strategic point on the coast 112. On the evening of June 27, the Scots have pierced the German front on approximately 10 kilometres in depth, an impressive performance but that does not reach the expectations of Montgomery, who, from his headquarters to Blay, is worried by the devastating reports of British losses since the start of operation Epsom. At Cherbourg, the last German bastions fall and Allied engineers specialists come to the port of the city, the major objective of the allies since D-day. The German destruction are extremely important and very lengthy repairs must soon commit. June 27, 177 000 Allied vehicles landed in Normandy.
