Tuesday Marine Room Day Dive Time: 12:25 pm Length: 45 mins. Weather: Sunny/warm Surface conditions: not quite the 2 ft surf Swell Watch had forecast, with 3-4 ft. breakers and even the occasional 5 footer, with multiple lines of surf (oh, joy), Perhaps due to the fact the tide was coming in. I didnt time it as well as I could have. I got clobbered a couple times. Armdadas of kayakers were out in force today also. Viz: pretty stirred up in the shallows, 3- 5 ft, opening up a bit to a decent 15 ft down in the canyon. Temp: funny how I *always* remember to check the temp when Im diving wet: a chilly 53 F. below 50 ft. Max Depth: 70 ft Comments: As is common during the day, there wasnt a *lot* out, but, stuff was there if you knew where to look. ;-) I came across a sea hare perched atop a strand of kelp--something I dont recall ever seeing before, with its rhinophores waving in the current, feeding. Cool. Surprised the kelp stand could support its weight. Saw a juvie octo scooting along the bottom, quickly changing colors [see photos] in an attempt to evade me. I really dont like to pursue marine life too long anymore, because Im sure the bright lights stress them out, so I let him go after a bit. Hell, I wouldnt want someone chasing *me* around with a bright light in my eyes. Would you? Also, there were patches Beggiatoa, the sulphur-loving bacteria seen often along the bottom of La Jolla Canyon......it looks oddly like newly fallen snow, from a distance--depending on how narced you are. :) https://facebook/media/set/?set=a.10152422202723972.1073741855.772333971&type=1&l=9cba79fa0b
