Tuesday News--- Cloudy with showers, high 46 ------------------------------- A group of wolf experts disputes that gray wolves in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are endangered or that a judges ruling will help the population spread to other states. A federal judge in Washington on Friday threw out the Obama administrations decision to remove gray wolves in the three states from the endangered list, a move that bans wolf hunting and trapping in the region. In a conference call organized by the International Wolf Center, regional experts including David Mech (meech) of the U.S. Geological Survey disputed that wolf hunting as it was regulated by the three states threatened the species survival in the region. A judge has upheld a new law clarifying that Michigan never intended to give out-of-state companies a lower tax liability in a 2007 tax overhaul. Court of Claims Judge Michael Talbot says the Legislature was entitled to correct its own mistakes through retroactive legislation. In September, Gov. Rick Snyder signed a law designed to ensure the state is not forced to pay $1.1 billion in refunds in 134 cases after a July ruling from the Michigan Supreme Court in a case involving IBM. State officials say they feared the courts decision could affect other cases in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 tax years. Statewide gas prices have dropped about 24 cents a gallon in the last week, according to AAA Michigan. The auto club says the average price per gallon of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was $2.23 on Sunday. That’s about $1 less than a year ago. This is the sixth week in a row that the statewide average price has fallen. Statewide prices remain at their lowest level in more than 5 years.
