Tuesday, October 29 30th Week of OT, R1 : Rom 8 :18-25 Gospel: Lk 13 :18-21 Reflection by: Bro. Yohanes Budiyanto Uttun,SSCC Heaven on Earth “It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches. (Lk.8:9b)” There are some people whom I met in my life who really showed the “heavenly” side of their characteristic as a human who is living here in this present moment. It can be through their smile, their service, their presence in difficult times, their love and ability in understanding the struggles of others, their readiness to say “yes, let us do it”, their ability to take a risk on behalf of others, so that everybody who lives around them feels so comforted when they are around. One of these people is Fr. Pankras SSCC. He is a person whom I found to be able to bring happiness to those people around him. He is able to be a “tree” that everybody can feel and say: “I am at home”. He seems to always be there when I need to talk, to share or even to argue. My experience with him has made me really understand what today’s Gospel says about the parable of heaven. I saw and feel it through the way they live. I so admire these people and never enough to say: “wow its cool”. Today’s Gospel parables invite me to do more good things for others. And to stop and think about goodness and happiness in my life . May I stop thinking that I am more important than everybody else, and begin to think as a “tree” who can give comfort and life to others, so that everyone can enjoy the fruits which create happiness, joy, gladness and many other good feelings.. ‘How do we arrive at this stage?’ I ask myself. No other way except to continue to participate in God’s way of giving to those around us, to do good, and to receive everything in love and awareness. I realize everything will become very easy. There will be struggles, fighting, and perhaps agony. I hope through this I don’t need to wait for death to experience what is called heaven, but can begin to experience it here in this present moment on earth. “Lord, I am so blind about heaven. Help me to create it in many ways through smiling, greeting and accepting others who live around me here in this world”.
