Tuesday, September 30, 2014 Whew! Richmond had the bone flap - TopicsExpress

Tuesday, September 30, 2014 Whew! Richmond had the bone flap replacement surgery this morning. The surgery was successful and the bone, which had been sewn into his left side beneath his rib cage, was viable. His amazing surgeon was beaming as he delivered the good news to us. There were risks, as with any surgery, but when I left tonight, Richmond was awake, alert and sitting up in his bed talking. God is good. He will spend a couple of days in the neuro icu and then, hopefully, go home. We have had a crazy couple of days. Joanna missed her 6:00 A.M. flight yesterday, so she took another one to Houston and got into Raleigh at 1:00. Her bags arrived in Charlotte last night at 6:45 P.M. I drove through the heavy rain to Raleigh to get her. We had the whole fam damily for a combination Gene (10/1) and Joanna (9/27) birthday dinner last night and then Joanna and I drove to Charlotte to retrieve her bag. She dropped me at home on her way to Greensboro to spend the night at Richmond and Luanas house. Aunt Jojo had Mila duty this morning so that Luana could get Richmond to the hospital on time. We picked Mila up and took her to dinner and then for dessert, an Oreo Shake! Then we jumped Richmonds car so that Joanna could use it while she is here. Can I just say how amazing my daughter is? While I was wringing my hands and saying that it was time to call AAA to charge the battery in Richmonds car, Joanna decided that she could push Richmonds car into the driveway so that my jumper cables would reach his battery, which, by the way was on the opposite side from mine. She did it! Amazing! I left Joanna in charge of Milas night time routine. I think a bubble bath was in that mix. Now, I am at home. Tonight before I go to bed, I will repeat the ritual that started almost six months ago, calling the icu to check on my child before I sleep. This time I feel more secure about it. Joanna said that while she was in his room two of the critical care docs who had seen Richmond in the ER on April 5 dropped by to say hello. How great is that? They proclaimed him a rock star and a poster child for TBI. Thanks to God, he is. Please pray for Richmonds recovery from surgery without any complications. Please also say a prayer of thanks for dear Dr. Botero, the wonderful surgeon who has performed miracles. Happy Birthday to Gene! Honey, I think that you got your early present today! Praise The Lord! Peace Amen We are Hillstrong and moving on.
