Tuesday Tales. When I was 17,I bought my 69 rs from my cousin for $300. The year was 1978. It was a daily driver for my cousin. If I didnt buy it from her it probably would of ended up in the junk yard. It was rusty with faded red paint which was closer to pink than red. the engine was a smoker and it barely stopped. the interior was in great shape except for the carpet. My Dad and I spend a lot of quality time in the garage doing all the mechanical work. I farmed out the body work which included new front fenders, rear quarters, doors and deck lid. New garnet red paint was applied and she looked real good. A couple of months after completion I went to a big weekend show.During the night I severe thunderstorm came through and the high winds blew gravel off the hotel roof on to our cars, resulting in over 300 stone chips in the hood and front fenders. Boy was I sick. I had the guy repaint the front clip but it never looked as good as the first time. In 1988 I had the car completely stripped and repainted. along with a new black vinyl top and new bumpers. She finally looked real fine again. I still own the car (which is the first car I had ever owned)). It still looks pretty good for a 26 year old paint job! The interior is still original except for the carpet. I still attend some shows every year and still get a lot of comments on the car.
