Tuesday Thoughts- I had a talk with my White Counterpart the other day. Im not being racist, she and I have an understanding about understanding each other and we refer to each other that way. We have always been able to ask each other the most pointed questions without the other taking offense. The bottom line is to reach a better understanding. So she said she had always wondered why there was this myth that Black men have tails. She said she thought it was twisted when she heard it and could not imagine why someone would even say, let alone spread something so evil. So we discussed it some more but at some point my thoughts went in another direction and I said to her-Remember Pinocchio and how when he told a lie, his nose grew? This got me thinking- what if our first sin started a tail and each time we sinned in our lives that tail grew. Since none of us is perfect, everyone would have one and after while some would be pretty long. So what if the tail had scales and on those scales you could see the latest sin spelled out for everyone to know what we did. First of all, I think wed try harder to do less things wrong but some would still happen because in the course of ones life you make dumb decisions, Do things you shouldnt and LIE! Its human nature to lie to try to avoid trouble or the consequences of ones actions. Still, getting back to this tail we are now dragging around everywhere we go. If we have one shred of conscience, it would start to be embarrassing and we would want to hide as much of it as possible, especially if what we did hurt family and friends. We would not want co-workers to see it or children, since they are very quick to speak their minds. Now, what if someone told you that there was a person who, with one swipe, could remove the tail and youd never grow another one? It didnt mean youd never do anything wrong again, it just meant that the whole world would not see it. In fact the only ones who would know about it would be you and the person who removed the original tail. Do you see where Im going? Do you understand that once God becomes part of your life, what you did in the past, is the past? With one swipe, you became brand new. My other birthday is coming up in August, not my physical birthday; my spiritual birthday. The day I accepted that I am a child of God and Jesus saved me from myself with one swipe! Just like you reap the benefits at the ATM machine! For almost 35 years God has had a hold on me. It doesnt mean I havent still made mistakes. Ive made whoppers sometimes and Im still here! The reason?- I know where I can go and say sorry, be forgiven and get another chance to do better. Some of us cant even get that from family! Bottom line- God loves you, Baby and thats the truth!
