Tuesday Thoughts: Remember when you first fell in love? Remember how you couldn’t wait to get in that some special’s arms? The hours you spent apart seemed like sheer misery. Finally, the waiting ceased and you were able to see them again. It was as if someone pressed the “pause” button and allowed you and that special person to share a slice of heaven. That sounds exhilarating doesn’t it? Let me ask you a question. When was the last time you had a similar experience entering or leaving your worship service? You might be shocked and amazed to learn that the Creator of the universe has the same longing in His heart for you, in an unbelievably deeper extent than what was expressed above, as He waits for you to come and share intimate time with Him. So why don’t we? All too often, it is the tyranny of the urgent that violates us, robbing us of the joy and assurance of an unconditional love that we need so desperately need. This meeting must end in exactly forty-five minutes to allow the parking lot to clear so that potential guests for the next meeting won’t think we’re over-capacity. We certainly can’t allow the service to run past a certain time because that would be untenable for parents or their children, and especially their temporary caregivers. Admittedly we as a society are often over-committed because we have bought into the “performance” mindset that equates accomplishment with success. This never-ending drive to “go and do” is the single most effective hindrance to our spiritual health and happiness, sin-aside. Somehow we’ve convinced ourselves that by achieving more, our level of contentment will rise commensurately. As times worsen we tend to look inwardly thinking we aren’t doing enough. Does this sound familiar? The emptiness, pain, hurt, and frustration we feel at times pales in comparison to the longing our Heavenly Father experiences regularly. We’re so busy taking care of our daily obligations, so caught up in OUR own agendas, programs etc. we haven’t even asked God what His might be? How can we love God with all our heart, mind, and soul if we rarely, if ever, spend time with Him? How can we love others the way we would want them to love us, when we seldom stop and take time to: • Ask their name • Inquire how they’re doing • Develop rapport with them • Share a tangible expression of God’s love with them Meanwhile, the cycle repeats itself, week after week, month after month until that one day when it hits us, bam! “Where has the time gone and how will I be rewarded for my stewardship of life while here on earth?” What am I willing to do about it, right now?
