Tuesday was paperwork signing day at the Grant County courthouse. In a pair of actions, county commissioners signed a deed allowing them ( the Historical Society) to take over the old Scherr schoolhouse, as well as an agreement governing management of the South Grove Street boat ramp site in Petersburg. On hand for the schoolhouse deed ceremony were members of the Grant County Historical Society. For the symbolic payment of $1, the society has turned over the schoolhouse to the county. Presumably, the county will now consider deeding the 2- room school to a proposed Scherr-Greenland preservation group. Get more details on this weeks front page.
