Tuesdays just got even better! Every Tuesday in May, the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society invites students who are vying for one of the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society scholarships to join with its professional musicians on stage at the Sunrise Black Box Theatre. Whether they’re trumpeters, trombonists, drummers, bass players, or vocalists, these talented young musicians have an opportunity to play with the pros, hone their skills, try their talents in front of a live (and very supportive) audience, and show their stuff. It’s live music the likes of which you’ve never heard, and it’s an incredible opportunity for the students because on Tuesday, May 27th, it’s Christmas in May as the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society honors all the students who are pursuing their musical dreams and award this year’s Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society scholarships. As part of its mission, each year the Jazz Society awards merit scholarships to worthy area high school graduate musicians who have displayed high academic achievement, good citizenship, and promising musicianship. In addition to a whopping $1,000 scholarship to help defray the costs of continuing education, the Jazz Society also bestows the gift of a year’s membership to the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society on each scholarship award recipient. In addition to hearing the incredibly talented students play with the pros each Tuesday this month at the regular Tuesday Evening Jazz Jams at the Sunrise Black Box Theatre, the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society invites you to join the fun and help support the next generation of musical entertainment, education, and cultural enrichment. After all, a society is only as creative and productive as its arts community, and the Society wants to ensure a creative and culturally rich future for the Treasure Coast and beyond. Please plan to join the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society at the Sunrise Black Box every Tuesday during the month of May, but especially on Tuesday, May 27th for Scholarship Award Night. If you’d like to know exactly what’s on the jazz calendar so you can start making your plans for the coming weeks, visit us at jazzsociety.org, or call the Society’s Jazz Hotline at 722-460-JAZZ (5299).
