Tune for the Day (Wednesday) - with the day that`s in it & with the murderous attack on satire & freedom of speech in France, I was thinking to put up some satire or French music today. Must admit I can`t think of too much French music at all, apart from Georges Moustaki (I think I`ll be cheating if I was to include Walter Mossmann from Alsace, as he sings in German, or they are the songs I know of). Can`t think of a single French punk band (though I have no doubt they exist), right now anyhow. Can`t think of too much satire right now either (`Cows With` Guns`)? There`s the spoof of Michael Jackson called `Eat it` by Weird Al Jankovich, but I didn`t like this much. Didn`t he take the piss out of Nirvana`s `Smells Like teen spirit` too. There is I, Ludicrous`s (an anagram of ridicilous) with their `A Pop Fans Dream`, and Sunday lunch with the Geldofs (shortly after Live Aid/Band Aid) ... mmmmm, maybe. Or how about Momus`s `I was a Maoist Intellectual`? Don`t know much about Momus, but I came across it on a French indie compilation, associated to a French indie mag, I think (Les Inrockuptibles Un Automne 88), so maybe I`ll stick with this one as it hits the button on both satire/irony & French connection (the clip is from a French TV performance). Anyhow, let`s not be silenced by anti-democrats & keep satirising the power of all religions https://youtube/watch?v=Q4J_PiPpQrc
