Because of the impact of the content, and the stature of those delivering it, history may well look back at this night as the moment that Hawaiian Sovereignty moved from dream to reality. The third of the history forums, titled The Colonizing of Hawaii 1897-2014 and Decolonization Efforts Worldwide Today, will take place on Tuesday evening, March 25, from 7:00 to 8:30, at Olelo Studios in Mapunapuna. The public is invited. It will also be shown live on Channel 53, and streamed live worldwide at thesovereigntyconversation.org, the website where all of the programs are available. In this forum, Attorney Dexter Kaiama will point out the outrageous illegalities at every step of becoming a part of America--the Bayonet Constitution, the Overthrow, the Provisional Government, Annexation, and Statehood. Williamson Chang, professor at UH Law School, will discuss the strong Hawaiian resistance at each of these stages, including the sending of the Kue Petition to Congress with 38,000 signatures opposing Annexation, the signatures of almost the whole Hawaiian population. Attorney Poka Laenui, Fred Cachola longtime extension education chief at Kamehameha Schools, and Dante Carpenter, Democrat Party chair and former Big Island Mayor, will discuss the Colonization of Hawaii, showing how America systematically replaced Hawaiian customs, beliefs, heroes, way of life, form of government, and life in general, with American forms. Professor Manu Kaiama will show the large number of countries that have been decolonized worldwide in the last twenty-five years, suggesting that Hawaii join in this historical time of decolonization. OHA Trustee Peter Apo will then talk about OHAs commitment of support. He will also sing Hawaii Loa Kū Like Kākou (All Hawaii Stand Together) which is recorded on his CD, Hawaiian Nation.
