Tungamah Senior Football Report Round 15 v. Waaia 26/07/2014 The bears were looking forward to the big game at Waaia who, were obviously up and about after defeating Rennie last week. We had a few out which gave a few players a chance to put themselves in the mix for finals selection. Waaia jumped out of the blocks early to score three goals with their good centre clearance work and quick ball movement. Tungamah’s forward line was very crowded and made it difficult to score with a few missed chances before Lee James scored our only goal for the quarter after seventeen minutes. Adam Dodd was busy all over the ground and Terence Jones, Drew Haebich and Damian Payne were busy keeping their opponents possessions down to a minimum. Waaia led by13 at the first break. Waaia scored the first goal in the second term but the Bears started to really man up well and spread when winning the ball as runners in Darke, Connell and Hicks moved the ball forward. Chris Powell goaled and then James kicked two in a row to give us the lead for the first time in the match at the fourteen minute mark. Defenders in Howroyd, Butts, Dominick and Payne were really tightening up and providing quick rebound into our forward line. Further goals to Matt Clark, Hicks and Jones saw us lead by 16 points at the main break. The third term saw our tight defence continue even though we were down in centre clearances as Waaia were restricted to one goal for the quarter. Adam Dodd continued to be busy around the packs along with Ash Saunders who had been doing a power of work in the ruck and his second efforts were great. Scott Sanderson was laying plenty of tackles to release the ball allowing Haebich, Ellis, James and Matt Clark to score. The lead had gone out to 37 points at the last change. The final quarter started with a quick goal to Ellis but to Waaia’s credit they weren’t lying down and scored another two. Some slick ball movement from the on ballers, with Tom Irvine showing real dash, as well as the tireless mid-field saw Corey Hicks and Chris Powell kick another two each to come away with a 57 point win. A good all round team performance against a strong opposition. Scores: Tungamah 17:12:114 def. Waaia 8:9:57 Goal Kickers: L. James 5, C. Hicks 3, C. Powell 3, D. Ellis 2, M. Clark 2, T. Jones, D.
