Tunics Of Skin (continued from 10-25 post...) After His rebuke - TopicsExpress

Tunics Of Skin (continued from 10-25 post...) After His rebuke and decree of judgment upon all involved (in the Garden of Eden), the Lord made “garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them” (Genesis 3:21). The Hebrew for garments is “kethoneth”, the same word for Joseph’s tunic in Genesis 37:3. The NKJV interprets it as “tunics of skin.” God’s tunic of skin in Christ covers mankind’s flesh, which represents our sinful nature. Jesus said in John 6:51, “I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread also which I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh.” Jesus wasn’t endorsing cannibalism, but a full consumption, a full commitment to Himself. When “put on,” He covers the destructive affects of sin. There is no other way for you and I to be cured. He continued in verses 55-56, “For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.” The Greek for true is “alethes” which means “true (as not concealing), loving the truth, speaking the truth, truthful.” Putting on the garment of Truth, who is Jesus, through obedience to His commands, is the only accepted way unto life (John 14:6). Verse 66 says this “difficult” statement caused many of His disciples to turn back and no longer walk with Him. At the beginning of this chapter He had fed five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish. Instead of continuing to feed them, creating a codependency based upon physical needs, He confronted them with their real need, Himself, the Bread of Life. This is why He used the manna in the wilderness their fathers ate as an example. It fed them for a season, but eventually they all died.
