Tunisian authorities have arrested nearly 300 illegal migrants attempting to reach Europe by boat since the beginning of June. Tunisia lies along the Central Mediterranean Route, which refers to the flow of migrants from Northern Africa towards Italy and Malta through the Mediterranean Sea. This area is the most heavily trafficked route across the sea, according to Frontex, the European Union’s agency for external border security.
