Society — Three people died and four others were missing due to the flashfloods that occurred in the northern provinces of Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen and Thai Binh and in the north-central province of Thanh Hoa on Friday, the National Committee for Search and Rescue reported. The flashfloods were caused by the prolonged heavy rains brought in by a low pressure that has been moving in the Gulf of Tonkin off northern Vietnam. — The Vietnam Expressway Development Corporation has opened a 20-km section of the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway to traffic on Friday. This section connects Belt 2 in HCMC City to National Highway 51 and can accommodate trucks with a load of over 10 tons. — A boy, about 10 years old, picked up a wallet containing VND100 million (US$4,720) on a street in the central highlands city of Da Lat and handed it in to local police on Friday. Based on some papers contained in the wallet, police on Friday returned the wallet to its owner, Le Xuan Quan, a resident of Hanoi who had visited Da Lat and dropped the wallet on the street. Business — The U.S. International Trade Committee has imposed an antidumping tax rate of 24.22 percent on steel products exported from SeAH Vina, a 100 percent South Korean-owned steel company located in the Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Park in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province. Meanwhile, a common antidumping tax rate of as much as 111.47 percent has been applied by the committee for steel products manufactured by all other companies across Vietnam. — The Russian-Vietnamese oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro on Friday announced that it had detected a new oil field at Ca Tam well, which is located 60 meters under the sea bed in an area about 160 km off the southern city of Vung Tau. This field can provide 2,000 barrels of oil per day, Vietvsopetro said. — Following a reduction in the world’s prices of gasoline and oil, the retail price of gasoline in Vietnam decreased by VND470 per liter as of Friday, according to a decision issued by the Ministry of Finance. The same day also saw the prices of diesel and kerosene reduced by VND160 per liter and VND 180 per liter respectively and the price of fuel oil (FO) cut by VND60 per kilogram.
