Tupi LGU strengthens health service to indigents TUPI, South Cotabato, July 7 (PIA)-- In a bid to provide quality health care services to poorest of the poor in the municipality, the local government unit will now cater the ‘point of care’ program of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). Mayor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. said that it is important for the LGU to provide its constituents with basic services they need most particularly on health aspect. When I learned about this program, I said, this is the answer to the health care services needed by our constituents,” Tamayo stated adding that it would really help the poor as the LGU don’t have enough funds to cater the hospital needs of the indigents. PhilHealth Circular 32, s-2013 which took effect November 29, 2013, formalized its ‘point-of-care enrolment program’ that targets non-members belonging to Class C-3 or D confined in government hospitals. The program will also benefit existing members not currently eligible to financial protection due to lack of qualifying contributions. Tamayo explained that qualified patients and their qualified dependents shall be provided with PhilHealth coverage under the sponsored program. Their premium contributions shall be borne by the government facility, provided that they are certified poor by the medical social worker at the time of admission. Under the rules, those qualified using the intake survey sheet prescribed by the Department of Health (DOH) shall be enrolled and paid for by the sponsoring hospital in the amount of P2,400 and valid from the first day of the confinement month and shall end on the last day of the same year. Meanwhile, the local chief executive also emphasized that Tupi LGU has already enrolled 13,000 indigent Tupinians under PhilHealth ng Masa program. With the point of care program, the LGU target to enroll more or less a thousand poorest of the poor in the municipality. With this goal, I urged everyone to support the programs of PhilHealth as we strengthen the LGU’s partnership with the agency to deliver health services,” Tamayo noted.
