Tuppens Fishing Report OFFSHORE The bottomfishing has been excellent this week off Jensen Beach. Lots of red snapper – many weighing over 20 pounds – were caught in 90-120 feet of water, north of the St. Lucie Inlet. Some nice gag grouper and mangrove snapper were also snagged at these depths. Mutton and lane snapper have been reported in 70 feet, south of the inlet. There has also been a good cobia bite in 60 feet, mostly as a bycatch for those targeting red snapper. The dolphin action has been decent in 180 feet. Wahoo have been biting in 120-300 feet off Jupiter, and dolphin are chewing in 150-250 feet. There are also some kingfish around, although they are very scattered and difficult to target. The bottom bite has been okay, with mutton, yellowtail and lane snapper all being reported in 60-90 feet. Some nice kingfish have been reported off Boynton Beach this week as well. The action is in 75-250 feet, with the larger fish being hooked at the deeper end of the range. Cero mackerel are being caught in 55 feet, and blackfin tuna are showing up in 120-200 feet. There were a few sailfish releases in 250 feet. On the bottom, yellowtail, mangrove, lane and mutton snapper were all snagged in 60-90 feet, and there are cobia in 90-110 feet. INSHORE There are a lot of snook on the beaches of the Treasure Coast, along with whiting and croaker. These fish all seem to be around throughout the day. Tarpon are there early, but move out of reach from shore once the sun comes up. In the Indian River, there are big numbers of redfish being caught, but the bite is over by 7:30 a.m. Trout are biting on the west side of the river, especially around Midway Road. There are also some monster snook on the west side – work the docks. There’s a solid tarpon bite in the Jensen Causeway area. Plenty of snook have been caught in the Jupiter Inlet and along the beaches of northern Palm Beach County. Anglers working the beaches need to get out early, but the bite seems to last all day in the inlet. In the Intracoastal Waterway around Jupiter, black drum, croaker, jacks and snook are all chewing. The snook bite is best at night around the bridges. There are a lot of bait fish around the Boynton Beach Inlet, which has attracted many snook and big tarpon to the area. Anglers are catching both from the beach. Tarpon are running in the Intracoastal from Lantana to Boynton Beach. Mangrove snapper, snook and sheepshead are all being reported at the Lantana Bridge. FRESHWATER There is a good morning bass bite on Lake Okeechobee. Guides are reporting up to 40 fish on four-hour morning trips, but the action is over by 10 a.m. The bass seem to have moved back into the grass, and artificial lures such as swim jigs and stickbaits are working best. The most consistent bass action is out on the reef and in areas such as West Wall and the Shoal. Fishing Pictures
