Turkey Adventure Day 13-Ayvalik to Canakkale Mmmm. Ayvalik Tostu. Maybe not the best sandwich in the world. But hey, got to try the local specialty right. Oddly, slept through this mornings call to prayer. Must have been all that 10 lyra wine ($6-ish). Made it for sunrise though. What a beautiful morning. Left our mansion to head for Troy. Got myself a mini Trojan horse, and a post card that Im pretty sure will arrive about 2 weeks after I get home. Crossed the Dardanelle over to the Gallipoli peninsula. Visited the memorial sites. I really liked Lone Pine. Years ago a seed from a local tree in turkey was taken to Australia and planted, and then a seed from that tree in Australia was brought back to Turkey and planted at the memorial site. After a long day we settled in and went for dinner. We also made a stop for some local Baklava. It was allso delicious, but Id have to say the Chocolate Baklava was my favorite. Would have licked the plate clean, but thought Id better mind my manners. And save some lickings for the local cats.
