Turkey comes off to me as a pretty spookily legendary place. The seat of the Roman emperor at Constantinople, after the Empire became Christian, and the country of the first Ecumenical Councils. The majority of the missions of St. Paul (and the letters we have that he wrote) were to cities in his own homeland of Asia Minor. Indeed the term Christian itself was coined in the city of Antioch. And far before any of that there was the first philosopher of Western history, Thales of Miletus on the southwestern coast. And even farther before that, on the northwestern coast, there was Troy. Too bad the damned Muslims had to come along and ruin the place, as they always do.
